Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia holds an exhibition“Empress Maria Fyodorovna. Artist and Collector.
The exposition presents the work of the empress herself, as well as part of the imperial collection from the Anichkov Palace.
The exhibition is dedicated to the creativity and collecting activities of the wife of Emperor Alexander III and the mother of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, Maria Fedorovna Romanova (Danish Princess Dagmar). Maria Fyodorovna was an artistically gifted person, played the piano, took drawing and painting lessons from the outstanding artist A.P. Bogolyubov, and, in his words, “mastered the color and taste for paints”. Museum guests will be able to plunge into the atmosphere and era of palace life at an exhibition telling about the life, creative and collecting activities of the penultimate Russian Empress. It was Maria Fedorovna and Emperor Alexander III who owned the idea of creating the National Museum of Russian Art in St. Petersburg (now the State Russian Museum).
