Morris Museum of Art: South American Folk Art

Exhibition January 1, 2019 − December 31, 2020
Ignoring the current cultural trends, folk artists often adhere to an inborn personal vision when transmitting resonant spiritual, patriotic and biographical messages. The real and imaginary worlds of artists sometimes merge, which leads to dreams - personal revelations that were received thanks to their creative abilities. Many began to engage in art at a later age when retirement provided time for art, while others turned to art when they were recovering or when they were looking for an expressive way out after suffering personal loss.

As seen fromsubmitted worksThe interests of folk artists include religion, memory, patriotism, the place and time of the year, family and the celebration of life.
