In Tokyo, the Perrotin Gallery presents a solo exhibition by New York artist Emily May Smith "
Avalon". The presented works are an ultramodern pop art with feminine graphics and sensitivity in every detail. The images in the artist's paintings exude feminism, self-confidence and creativity. She reproduces the romantic forms of the female body from pre-modern visual styles, such as surrealism or modern, and reinterprets the idea of an icon that turns into an avatar or self-portrait with an innocently sexual charge of a fairy-tale character. Numerous layers of her meticulous oil painting also reveal several meanings.
Emily May Smith was born in 1979 in Austin. Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Participant of numerous exhibitions.
