Baton Rouge Gallery: Catherine Hunter

Katherine Huntergrew up in Decatur, Alabama, surrounded by good northern storytellers. After one year of college, she set off on an adventure in the high mountains of Montana and Wyoming, where she lived for almost ten years, receiving an undergraduate degree in fine art in engraving from Montana State University, Bozeman. She returned south in 2000 to enter graduate school at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and in 2003 received a master's degree in fine art in print.

In addition to creativity, Hunter runs a custom design and letterpress business called Blackbird Letterpress in Baton Rouge, which she founded in 2003. Blackbird Letterpress specializes in wedding invitations, stationery, handmade notebooks and other elements with an emphasis on good craftsmanship and good design.

Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Louisiana State Museum of Art and the special collections of the Skillman Library, Lafayette College, Easton, PA and others.
