The end of the day: American oil painting of the 1900s

Exhibition June 15 − September 29, 2019
The End of the Day exhibition, taken from the Fry Permanent Museum of Art collection, presents a collection of paintings by American artists, created mainly in the northeast United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The works demonstrate a variety of pictorial styles and influences, from the refined pictorial work of the serene landscapes of the Hudson River School to the bold, energetic touches of impressionism and realism, movements that sought to transcribe modern life in a new way as it appeared before the artist's eyes.

Many of the paintings were created during the stay of artists in Europe, and together they open a window to the intercultural environment occupied by American artists at the turn of the twentieth century.
