Eye contact

Exhibition May 24 − September 15, 2019
At the exhibition "Eye contact»Modern figurative paintings from the permanent collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts explore the concept of the view and are located in this installation according to the subject's view.

The vision concept was developed by feminist film theorists in the 1970s, exploring the dominance of the male, heterosexual perspective in visual art. Artists Kukuli Velarde, Judith Linhares and Barkley Hendrix use this concept of “alien” or “male” view to translate the viewer into their paintings and interior thoughts or 19th century masterpieces located on opposite walls of the gallery.
