Drawing the curtain: sketches by Maurice Sendak for opera and ballet

Morgan Library and Museum presents the exhibition "Drawing the Curtain: Sketches by Maurice Sendak for Opera and Ballet".

Maurice Sendak (1928–2012) - American children's writer and illustrator, was also an avid lover of music and opera. In the late 1970s, he began a successful second career as a designer of stage scenery and costumes.

The exhibition at the Morgan Library has become the first museum exhibition dedicated to the theatrical aspect of his career. It includes about 150 exhibits: storyboards, preparatory sketches, costumes, luminous watercolors and meticulous dioramas from Mozart's Magic Flute, Janachek's Sly Little Chanterel, Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and Opera, created on the basis of Sandak's own book, "Where the monsters live."

Based on the materials of the official site Morgan Library and Museum.
