Thirteen Orchids for the Empress

Exhibition April 16 − May 20, 2019
Gallery "Fine-Art" in the Center for Contemporary Art Winery presents a new project of Catherine Belyavskaya "Thirteen Orchids for the Empress".

The exhibition presents luxurious paintings, combined with literary and historical overtones.

The plot of the canvases is based on the life of the last Chinese empress named Tsu Xi (1836-1908), ruling for about 50 years. Since her youth, Tsy Xi had a beautiful appearance and a pleasant, sonorous voice, for which the people called her a little Orchid. The biography of Tzu Xi can easily be viewed as a scenario of a terrible thriller, because under the angelic appearance there was a monster burned by three passions - a thirst for absolute, eternal power, a thirst for love joys and enrichment. However, these three passions of Qi Xi are quite relevant today. At the end of his reign, Tsy Xi received a second name for his cruelty and greed - the Dragon. The metamorphosis of the beautiful Orchid in the cruel Dragon and presents in his canvases Ekaterina Belyavskaya.
