Exhibition May 5 − September 22, 2019
This exhibition, organized in honor of the centenary of the Print Club in Cleveland, presents a collection of significant engravings, generously donated to the museum over the past 100 years. Since its founding in 1919, the Press Club, the first branch of museums in the United States, has supported the Cleveland Museum of Art, fulfilling its dual mission to enrich a world-class print collection and increase interest in the history of printing art. "Lasting impression"which includes more than 70 works by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Francisco de Goya, Edgar Degas, Kete Colwitz, Pablo Picasso and Jasper Johns, thematically traces the history of European printing art for six centuries, using objects ranging from landscape to abstraction and techniques such as engraving and wood engraving, the depth and quality of these works underscore the transformative influence of the Press Club on the internationally recognized print collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
