Janira: Image of Brazil

Exhibition March 1 − May 19, 2019
«Janira: Image of Brazil- the first exhibition in the series “Women's Stories, Feminist Stories”, dedicated to women artists - is held at the Art Museum of São Paulo. The exhibition includes works from all periods of the work of Janira and Motta Silva - from the early 1940s to the end of the 1970s. The works are organized in chronological order and by major themes.

Janiru da Motta and Silva identify with the second wave of Brazilian modernism. Critics describe her work as "primitive." This allowed the author to take an independent position in the art world, using his self-taught status as a starting point for deviating from dogmatic tendencies or schools and creating a unique combination of social themes and formal synthesis.
