Demand. The collection of Russian avant-garde of regional museums. Part II

Exhibition March 30 − May 28, 2017
The Jewish Museum together with the "Encyclopedia of Russian avant-garde" is continued large-scale exhibition project curated by Andrew Sarabyanova – a unique collection of avant-garde art from the collections of regional museums in 17 cities: Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Vyatka, Ekaterinburg, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Tagil, Omsk, Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Tula, Cheboksary, Yaroslavl, Vologda.

The main idea was to show the forgotten works known, little known or completely unknown artists of the avant-garde, stored in the collections of regional museums.

For the second part of the exhibition were selected more than 100 works as a well-known avant-garde artists – Vasily Kandinsky, El Lissitzky, Mikhail Matyushin, Lyubov Popova, Alexander Rodchenko, Pavel Filonov, and little-known authors – Michael Minkova, James pain, Roman Semashkevich, Lyudmila Shmit-Ryzhov, Valentin Yustitskogo and others. The basis of the exhibition went to the materials research work published in the form of the fundamental three-volume "Encyclopedia of Russian avant-garde".

The exhibition is a logical continuation of the first exhibition of "demand" (read about it in our material!), held at the Museum in spring 2016. Chronology of the second part of the exhibition covers the period from 1917 to the early 1930-ies. At this time, continues the artistic evolution of those styles that originated in 1910-ies (to some extent, Cubo-futurism, primitivism), and, simultaneously, the formation of new directions, such as pointlessness and constructivism.

The Museum is open 10 APR to 17:00 on April 16 to 17:30. 11-12 and 17-18 April (Pesach) the Museum is not working.
