Fang Lijun. Face recognition

Exhibition February 21 − April 6, 2019
Gallery Vermilion Art in Australia presents the first solo exhibition of contemporary Chinese artist Fang Lijun "Face recognition". The exhibition consists of large prints, made from 2013 to 2018. Smiling and grimacing bald heads - a recurring theme of the works - show the artist's concern about how ordinary people struggle to preserve individual identity in modern society, both in the East and in the West.

The author revived the ancient Asian method of wood engraving, a complex and demanding process of cutting out the "negative" image on the panel, followed by applying ink and paint to the surface. The artist creates great works with a bright visual impact.

Fang Lijun was born in 1963 in China. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where he studied engraving. The artist exhibited his works in the Chinese Art Museum, in the Modern Art Museum in Beijing and in the Staatliche Museen in Berlin. Participant of various exhibitions at home and abroad. Lives and works in Beijing.
