Van dyke Court painter

Exhibition November 16, 2018 − March 17, 2019
A unique exhibition of paintings by Anthony van Dyck, the great Flemish artist who revolutionized 17th-century portraiture, opened at the Chamber of Commerce of the Galleria Sabauda at the Royal Museum of Turin. Van Dyck was a star pupil of Rubens, a world-famous personality, a sophisticated gentleman, a charming interlocutor, a brilliant court painter at the most important European courtyards.

The exhibition “Van Dyke. The Court Artist ”reveals the painter’s exceptional relations with European courtyards through 45 canvases and 21 engravings. The artist satisfied the need for symbols of status and prestige of representatives of the upper classes - from the Genoese nobility to the ruling Savoy family, from the Archduchess Isabella to the courtyards of James I and Charles I in England.

The works of Van Dyck allow us to enter the luxurious world of the XVII century, to discover the ambitions of people who wrote the "glory of the world" (there Charles I described the Flemish master).
