Kete Kolwitz. Voice of the people

Exhibition October 13, 2018 − March 3, 2019
The Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto presents the exhibition Kete Kollwitz"The voice of the people." German artist Kete Kolwitz is a legendary figure in the history of twentieth-century art. She conveyed sadness and painful experiences of both historical and modern wars of the first decades of the last century. Relying on her own socialist and antiwar sentiments, she used the expressive power of art to present her view of the consequences of the war to the public.

As an artist, Kolwitz found herself in print. Throughout her career, she mastered several different methods of printing and experimented with combining them. She managed to simplify her graphic compositions, remove extraneous parts and fill them with an even greater emotional effect.

The exhibition includes more than 170 works, drawings and sculptures of Kolvits, recently donated to the Ontario Art Gallery by Dr. Brian McCrindl This is one of the largest collections of works by the artist outside of Germany.
