The National Gallery of Singapore hosts an exhibition Lima Cheng Hoe (1912–1979) "Depicting Singapore". The exhibition features more than 60 works of art, sketches and archival materials, which emphasize Lima's skill in outdoor landscape painting.
Lim Cheng Hoe was born in 1912. His father wanted his son to receive education in English in Singapore, and the young man from 1928 to 1932 studied at the Raffles Institute. However, he sought to become an artist and study painting at the Royal Academy in London, but these dreams did not have financial support. Lim worked as a clerk in the civil service until he resigned in 1966. In 1954 he became a member of the Singapore Art Society, in 1969 he became one of the co-founders of the Singapore Watercolor Society.
