For 8 years studied the life of 48 Indian tribes. Printed: "Illustrations of the manners, customs and condition of the North American Indians" (with 300 engravings, London, 1841; 1876). In 1844, Catlin issued a portfolio of 25 drawings with hunting scenes from the life of the West. In 1848 appeared his "Notes of eight years travels and residence in Europe", in 1867 — "Last rambles amongst the Indians, Rocky Mountains and Andes" (London).
In honor of Celina named catlinite — sacred to the Sioux Indians, the mineral from which at least since the seventeenth century it was customary to make a peace pipe.
