Biography and information

Pupil of Rembrandt, painted scenes from the old Testament and of ancient history, arranged a dramatic, decorated in warm tones, but often resembling to a great extent the manner of Rembrandt. For example, you can call, "Joseph explains the dreams of two courtiers" (Amsterdam), "Pharaoh's Daughter finds baby Moses" (Dresden), "Tobias and his family" (Munich), "Ruth and Boaz" (Frankfurt am main), "the Forbearance of Scipio" (in the St. Petersburg Hermitage). Viktors wrote scenes of everyday life more independently; these are, eg., "Dentist," "Village wedding" (Antwerp), "Ferry" (St. Petersburg Hermitage), etc.

The whole cycle of works devoted to the subject of dentistry, there is the Dutch artist Jan Victors (dates of life). The most well-known painting "the Dentist with the visitors."

The author in addition to this work, there are three more: "Dentist", "Barber" and "Market scene". If you look closely, you can see that the action depicted in all the pictures, comes in the form of a pageant in one place, in the same area, roughly in the same situation. A few changed characters, but the meaning is the same: dental treatment in the period was the procedure publicly, it made a kind of show.
