Lodovico Cardi
Cigoli

Italia • 1559−1613

Lodovico Cardi Cigoli (1559—1613) was an Italian painter and architect. He was born in the town of Cigoli near Florence. The name by which he is now widely known comes from the name of the town. Cigoli’s basic training took place in Florence under Alessandro Allori. Later, under the influence of the most significant painters of the epoch, such as Santo di Tito, Correggio, Federico Baroccio, Cigoli’s style was revealed to full extent. Alongwith painting, Cigoli was engaged in architecture, and his mentor was Buontalenti. Cristofano Allori (1577—1621) and Domenico Fetti were his pupils.
