German painter and restorer, came to St. Petersburg in 1743, and entered the service of an assistant to the court painter G. K. Groot. With 1749 is the guardian and restorer of paintings in the Imperial palaces, from 1764, the first Keeper and the restorer of painting in the Hermitage. With the name p is associated the emergence of technology of restoration of oil painting in Russia. For a quarter of a century, P. was engaged in the sets. and the device exhibits at the Hermitage and country imp. palaces, including the Art hall in the Great Tsarskoye Selo Palace and the Upper hall in Peterhof the Hermitage. P. has also acted as a copyist, and wrote self-portraits, although the particular picturesque qualities, they did not differ.
