[R. 31. V (12. VI). 1880]-Russian Soviet theatrical artist, architect. Honored. deyat. arts of the RSFSR (1955), Professor 1940). He graduated from the faculty of graphics of the Higher arts. Uch-conductive at the Academy of arts in St. Petersburg (1913), and the Archaeological Institute of the Russian section of the antiquities and Architectural inst. In 1924-28 was the main artist of the Bolshoi t-RA. Designed productions in the t-RAH Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Odessa, Saratov, Tashkent and other cities (up to 1950). The most significant C. scenery for the ballet "the Red poppy" at the Bolshoi t-re (1927, K. - the author of the libretto; the new version of the play, together with Tikhomirov, 1949, the State. St. USSR, 1950) and to the Opera "may night" in the Opera t-re im. Stanislavsky (1928). Using pictorial volume principle of design, JK. in their scenery combines the concreteness of life with conventional methods of t-RA, large-scale entertainment of Opera and ballet performances. K. belongs to a number of inventions for the theatre. technique of theatre. the lighting, the project of mechanization of the stage. In 1930-33 K. created the project, which underlies the construction of the Novosibirsk t-RA of Opera and ballet (domed ceiling with no buttresses and trusses). 1914 K. has been teaching; in 1948-60 led.decorat. workshop of Arts. in-TA im.
