Biography and information

Johann-Michael Rottmayr (it. Johann Michael Rottmayr, 11 Dec 1654, Laufen an der Salzach, then Austria — 25 Oct 1730, Mougin, France) — one of the leading artists of the Baroque era.

 

Johann-Michael Rottmayr with 1675 in 1688 he worked in Venice as a pupil of Johann-Carl of the Lot. Upon returning to his Homeland in 1689, the artist began to work in Vienna and Salzburg are famous for its mural frescoes of the domes of the Vienna Church of St. Peter (Peterskirche). Another well-known work in the Vienna Church of St. Charles Borromeo (the Karlskirche).
