Mokosh or Mokosh

Description of the artwork «Mokosh or Mokosh»

The female mythological character of the Slavs, to whom I dedicated the diptych, is very controversial. I have an article on this subject.

Why a diptych called "Mokosh or Mokosh"?

If you try to be brief, then you can draw the following conclusions, based on many sources devoted to the study of Slavic mythology: 1. - Mokosha is a deity that protects women, their affairs, mainly needlework, fertility, it is a union of land and water; 2 - Makosh, this is a very archaic deity, an echo of matriarchy, the Great Mother, uniting the forces of space and earth.

From the research I did, the idea of depicting this controversial female image arose. I found her images in Russian embroidery, two fragments of which became the prototype of my batik.

As was seen from my research, the very obvious feature of Mokosh is very exaggerated hands, arms-crests. Mokosh is inextricable with nature, land and fertility, therefore birds are in her hands. Unites their wheel spinning wheels.

The main task that I set for myself is the image of a mysterious, strict, mythological spirit that has a feminine appearance. Makosh is an idol with a strict demonic gaze. Mokosh is a mundane goddess filled with dynamics.

The primary colors blue and brown are not random. Mokosh and Mokosh are associated with the two elements by water (blue) and earth (brown).
