Description of the artwork «Girl by the tree»

Each museum has its own unique exhibits that attract the attention of not only art historians, but also visitors. At first glance, an ordinary porcelain figurine with a picture of a little girl and a cat with a dog revealed the history of the famous factory Unger, Schneider & Co., Grafenthal in Germany.
The porcelain factory Unger, Schneider & Co., Grafenthal, (Thuringia) was founded in 1859 by entrepreneur Karl Schneider, artist Karl Unger and businessman German Hochenreiter. At the beginning of the activity, dishes, kitchen tools, and miniature children's dishes for playing were made at the factory. The basis of the dishes was cobalt blue, sometimes with gilding elements. Production intensively generated new ideas and forms of products, for which it received its first award in 1875. Later, in 1882, Karl Unger, together with his friend Bernhard Schilde, organized another production known as Porzellanfabrik Unger & Schilde. After the death of Karl Schneider, his place is taken by his son Paul and production begins to work under new management. After the death of Pavel Schneider in 1912, production was led by Wilhelm Wedel, who joined the company in 1889. He managed to structure the enterprise. In 1951, the company was nationalized and became part of the VEB Porzellanfiguren Gräfenthal, having teamed up with Carl Scheidig KG, the factory began producing porcelain figures and dolls. VEB Porzellanfiguren Gräfenthal was dissolved, and the Carl Scheidig KG factory itself was completely closed in 1973 (Bulletin "And the Library of Antiquities. Porcelain and Faience.
