Description of the artwork «Portrait of the burnt»
"Portrait of the self-burnt" (from the series "Russian Posolon") - oil, cardboard 50 by 60 cm.
Posolon (according to the sun) - to walk clockwise, in Russian ancient Orthodoxy (Old Believers), this was sometimes called the procession. One of the most tragic episodes of the Russian schism (XVII century, Nikon's reform) was the clash of two religious processions at Easter (the Nikonians were fighting with antisolds), which led to a "bloody fight for the cross and fire". The self-immolation of the schismatics was also sometimes called the "fiery salting".
