GOLDEN RING ON HOLIDAYS

Print, 2000-th , 25×41.5 cm

Description of the artwork «GOLDEN RING ON HOLIDAYS»

In 2007, the beginning of work on the draft of the engraving book “Cities of the Golden Ring of Russia in the Holidays” was initiated - this project is a synthesis of monumentalism and miniature. Such a combination was made possible thanks to the main idea of this series of works, which consists in the following - to reconstruct the festive fair life of pre-revolutionary Russia.
Works from this series combine images of a city square, in the background of which significant architectural objects of the depicted city are collected, and mass festivities are in the foreground.
The plan of the city, its buildings and structures are restored according to archival documents, while the images are not a historical section, but capture a historical retrospective, where buildings can exist that could not actually be in the same time period.
A detailed study of the background, architectural elements, characters distinguishes the work of this series. Some works captured more than 50 temples and houses of the past centuries, and more than 100 different characters. The size of the printing forms is 41.5x25 cm. The works are framed by an ornate ornament.
At the moment, six etchings have been created, which are fragments of a future book. Work on the book continues to the present, in the work at different stages are two engravings. The most “densely populated” are the following works: “Christmas. Moscow Golden-headed "and" Easter. Yaroslavl ".
The engraving book “Cities of the Golden Ring of Russia in the Holidays” is a monument to pre-revolutionary Russia of modern times and will become an adornment of museums and city administrations of the “Union of Cities of the Golden Ring”.
This project has the ability to grow and over time can become a global project "Cities of Russia in the holidays." Already today there are works that "go" beyond the boundaries of the Golden Ring - this is "Peter Day. St. Petersburg "and" Ilyin’s Day. Rybinsk. "
