Painting, 2002, 35×50 cm

Description of the artwork «Mister X. Portrait of aerial balancer Valery Panyushkin»

“In the picture“ Mr. X ”, the viewer can see the Ryazan circus and aerial gymnast Valery Panyushkin, who several times went on tour in Ryazan. The initiative for painting on this subject belonged to Valery Panyushkin. He ordered several works from me in the early 2000s. Valery’s crown circus number was “Mr. X” - an image that he carried through his whole life. When in the early 2000s Panyushkin went on tour in Ryazan, he was already over 60. At this age, he performed complicated acrobatic stunts under the dome pka without insurance !!! Nobody remained indifferent looking at these ideas, many of the spectators at all close their eyes, looking at the way he pushed off from the trapeze a few seconds, hovering in the air in his white robe like a bird.
In addition to circus activities, Valery Panyushkin also starred as an actor and acrobat in the 1979 film "Air Pedestrians" (the first minutes of the film he performs the most difficult tricks with his partner at the height of a multi-storey building (and again) without insurance). Our acquaintance with Valery Panyushkin happened in the Exhibition Hall of the Ryazan Union of Artists. In those years, my wife Elena worked there as a guide. She introduced us. Valery and I became friends for many years. In addition to artistic activities, Valera also collects contemporary art from all over the globe. My style of ornamentalism was very attracted to Valery Panyushkin, he said that nowhere in the world had he seen such a painting and he said this sincerely.
In the plot of the picture, against the background of Mr. X (Valery Panyushkin), floating in the sky is the Ryazan circus. Collecting and performing unique acrobatic numbers Valery was not limited. He is still writing poetry. Here is a poem that he dedicated to my work:
You and I,
We are doing a round dance.
Gulena, Korsakov,
We are greeted with honor.
Hey - Sailor, Bear Cub -
Call on the canvas people!
Triumph and I are flying to the Starship! "
